Speos places Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) at the core of its strategy, with a strong commitment to the well-being of our collaborators. We create sustainable value by integrating ethical, social and environmental practices, while ensuring a fulfilling and respectable work environment for everyone. This guides our actions towards a more responsible and harmonious future.
A key part of speos’ story is the creation of an internal CSR committee in 2021, initiated by our CEO, Stephan Raymakers. Today, he remains an active member of the committee, along with several other people from various departments, such as procurement, marketing & innovation, customer service, and QHSE Office. Together they develop CSR initiatives on behalf of speos.
In addition to the committee, speos has a “Steward” program. Throughout the company, people are appointed to report on areas that can be improved, generating fresh ideas that can be further discussed.
“As a company, we believe that success is measured not just by financial performance, but by the positive impact we have on our people, our clients and the planet”, says Stephan Raymakers. “Our commitment to CSR and the well-being of our collaborators is not just a strategic priority, it’s a reflection of our core values. By embracing these principles and signing the United Nations Global Compact, we are dedicated to leading by example and building a sustainable future together.”
Let’s take a look at some of the initiatives we have undertaken.
Switch to electric cars
Speos is committed to a complete transition to 100% electric vehicles (EVs). All new company cars ordered by employees are EVs, which means that our entire fleet will soon be electric. To make it happen, we have installed twenty charging stations at our two sites in Brussels and Fleurus.
While many employees initially worry about the range of their new cars, they are soon reassured by the advice from colleagues who already enjoy the unique comfort of an EV. Additionally, all employees with a company car are entitled to a home charging station.
Cleaning up garbage
Waste management is crucial for creating a sustainable environment. That’s why speos will be part of World Cleanup Day in September. For the second consecutive year, our employees can spend some of their time cleaning up the neighborhood by collecting garbage on the streets. But waste management is also a year-round focus for speos as part of our ISO14001 certification. We sort garbage meticulously across the whole company. All waste is then transported for further sorting.
To handle our IT waste, such as old computers and other devices, we prioritize a circular economy approach. That’s why we collaborate with a WEEELABEX certified partner.
From bees to sustainable clothing and renewable energy
In the backyard of our company, we maintain two beehives with the help of a beekeeper. To create the perfect ecosystem for the bees and promote biodiversity, we allow the grass and flowers near the hives to grow.
The materials we use in our company are also responsibly sourced. For instance, we only use paper with an FSC label, ensuring it comes from sustainable deforestation practices. Even the clothing worn by our employees at the production site is made from ecological fabrics with a fair-trade label.
Last but not least, thinking about energy savings when replacing servers or production machines is also a key focus at speos. In addition to 900 solar panels on the roof of our site in Fleurus, we have installed LED lights and motion detectors and invest in improved insulation for the roof and windows (with UV filters that prevent energy loss).
A healthy and pleasant work environment
We aim to create a safe and healthy workplace for our employees. That’s why we have made a significant investment in enhancing our office spaces to promote employee well-being. We have made a significant investment in enhancing our office spaces to promote employee well-being. Every week, we provide fresh fruit, and during winter, we offer natural soup. In line with our commitment to local products, we plan to collaborate with a bio farm located next to speos.
Finally, sports are also important at speos. Each quarter, our employees are invited to gather for a game of padel. Some of them developed a true passion for the game and now meet to play on a more regular basis. Similarly, a weekly football game organized by colleagues is also a fixed part of the speos sports culture. We even have a ping-pong and a kicker table that help us build and maintain social relationships within the organization.
To conclude, CSR and taking care of our people and environment are deeply embedded in the speos culture. Interested in strengthening our team? Check out our career opportunities.
