In 2025, speos proudly celebrates its 40th anniversary. Over the past four decades, much has changed. Did you know that our journey began in direct marketing? While our sights are now firmly set on the future, let’s take one moment to reflect on the remarkable history of speos.
The story of speos begins in 1985 under a different name – Prom’Imprim. At the time, our focus was on direct mail. While printing and mailing documents were already part of our DNA, our workload consisted of handling commercial documents on behalf of customers. Over the years, we have seen the market transform with digital innovations for document distribution such as e-mail, SMS, QR codes, customer interfaces, etc. To ensure a top-notch customer experience, we continuously invested in cutting-edge technologies.
Transition to financial & administrative communication
In 1995, we decided to focus on financial & administrative communication instead of commercial documents. While the foundation of our activities remained intact, we had to implement much stricter processes to meet the demands of this new domain. Although we continued working with similar techniques, handling documents like invoices requires absolute precision. Each invoice needs to reach its recipient on time to ensure a seamless financial flow for our customers.
In 1998, Prom’Imprim changed its name into speos Belgium after a French group acquired a stake in the company. The following year, in 1999, Stephan Raymakers took on the role of Managing Director. Today, 25 years later, he continues to lead the company with dedication and vision.
The dawn of the new millennium brought increased interest from organizations such as bpost (then known as De Post/La Poste) In 2001, bpost became the sole owner of speos. In the years that followed, several notable bpost events were hosted at speos’ premises in Anderlecht.
From paper to digital
Our core focus now lies in servicing a wide array of corporations. From small businesses to large corporations such as banks, insurance providers, telecom companies, bailiffs, etc. We help clients manage their administrative and financial communication flows. Building on our expertise, speos has also taken a proactive role in guiding these organizations through their digital transformation, helping them transition seamlessly as more documents shift from paper to digital formats. While developing new services for existing partners, we also extend our products to the SME market.
In 2005, we acquired Secumail, a company located in Merchtem. This served as our backup site within the framework of our disaster recovery plan. However, due to our booming activities, we noticed that the site was becoming too small.
Therefore, we bought space on the site of Martinrou in Fleurus to build a whole new 4,000 m² facility. Our first production at this site began on January 1, 2013. It is our second production facility, accounting for approximately 35% of our total volume. Thanks to the Fleurus site, we now have two mirrored production facilities, allowing one site to serve as a backup for the other when needed.
Driven by a commitment to innovation and ongoing growth, speos continues to invest in internal development, strategic partnerships, and acquisitions. In 2024, speos announced the acquisition of b2boost, a significant milestone that allows us to offer e-invoicing solutions to our customers. This acquisition comes at a pivotal moment, because e-invoicing will become mandatory for B2B transactions in Belgium starting in 2026. To learn more, check out our detailed blog on the topic.
Ready for the future
In 2001, speos had a team of fewer than 100 employees. Today, that number has more than doubled. People have always held a key position in our philosophy. We want to provide a pleasant, safe and qualitative work environment.
As we continuously modernize our products and services, our offices couldn’t be left behind. That’s why speos’ headquarters in Anderlecht are undergoing a complete makeover, featuring more comfortable workspaces and modern meeting rooms to better support our employees in their daily activities.
The past 40 years have been an exciting journey for speos, and we are eager to see what the future holds. One thing is clear: the pace of change is faster than ever. While the market has remained relatively stable over the years, our focus is now on adapting to new developments and meeting the evolving needs of our customers. Whatever the future brings, we’re ready for the next 40 years.
